1. NITI Aayog launches National Nutrition Strategy:

  • NITI Aayog has launched the National Nutrition Strategy aimed at Kuposhan Mukt Bharat.
  • Leader of the Green Revolution (Dr M S Swaminathan) and Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog (Dr Rajiv Kumar) have jointly launched the Nutrition Strategy in New Delhi.
  • It intends at bringing nutrition to the centre-stage of the National Development Agenda and lays the roadmap for targeted action to address India’s nutritional needs.
  • The nutrition strategy calls for convergence between four proximate determinants of nutrition (food, health services, income, and water).
  • The Nutrition Strategy framework envisages a Kuposhan Mukt Bharat – linked to Swachh Bharat and Swasth Bharat.

2. Narayana Murthy Receives PLuS Alliance Prize:

  • Infosys co-founder N R Narayana Murthy and Mumbai-born scientist Veena Sahajwalla have been conferred the PLuS Alliance Prize.
  • The Prize of USD 50,000 was awarded in two categories, Education Innovation and Research Innovation. Murthy was presented the PLuS Alliance Prize for Global Leadership while Professor Sahajwalla was awarded the PLuS Alliance Prize for Research Innovation for her project ‘The new science of green manufacturing,’
  • PLuS Alliance Prize is a prestigious honor that recognizes Research Innovation, Education Innovation, Global Leadership and Global Innovation.

3. China bans Initial Coin Offering:

  • The People’s Bank of China (PBC), central bank of China has banned individuals and organisations from raising funds through initial coin offerings (ICO) saying that practice constituted illegal fund-raising.
  • The PBC notified that digital token financing and trading platforms are prohibited from doing conversions of coins with fiat currencies. Digital tokens cannot be used as currency on t market and banks are forbidden from offering services to ICOs.

  • ICO is an unregulated means of crowd funding for project via use of cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin,DASH, Ethereum, Monero, Litecoin, Z-cash etc.

4. Assam Govt. sets up DBT cell for implementation of DBT scheme:

  • Assam govt. has set up a Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) Cell for the implementation of DBT across schemes in the country and to coordinate efforts at the state level in taking the DBT initiative forward with immediate effect.
  • Chief Secretary, Assam will be the Chairman and Addl. Chief Secretary/ Principal Secretary; Finance Department will be the Convenor.The Cell will Coordinate with Central Ministries & disseminate the directives to the respective Departments in States.

5. Jharkhand Governor gives assent to Religious Freedom Bill-2017:

  • Jharkhand Governor Draupadi Murmu has given assent to the Jharkhand Religious Freedom Bill-2017 along with Land Acquisition Bill-2017(passed by the State Assembly).
  • Now, the state government will issue a notification on the Religious Freedom Bill, after which it will become an Act. Land Acquisition Bill will be sent to the President of India for final approval.

6. NHAI Awards First International Project in Myanmar to Punj Lloyd-Varaha:

  • The National Highway Authority of India has awarded its first international project in Myanmar to a joint venture of Punj Lloyd-Varaha.
  • This is for the upgradation of the Yagyi–Kalewa section in Myanmar to two lanes with earthern shoulder in the engineering, procurement, and construction mode.
  • The 120-km-long project was estimated to cost Rs. 1,177.02 crore and is to be completed within 36 months. Punj Lloyd-Varaha’s bid was identified as the most competitive among four qualified bidders. It was at Rs. 1,177 crore.

7. Sushma Swaraj to Attend 3rd Eastern Economic Forum in Russia:

  • External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived in Russian port city of Vladivostok on a three-day visit to attend the third Eastern Economic Forum which will deliberate on pressing issues relating to global trade. Delegates from at least 24 countries are attending the gathering.
  • She will also hold bilateral talks with her Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. The Eastern Economic Forum is considered as the biggest international communication platform for cooperation between businesses leaders and senior government representatives from Russia, the Pacific Region and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

8. List of MoUs Signed During Visit of PM Modi to Myanmar:
After attending the BRICS Summit in China, PM Modi left for his three-day visit to Myanmar. He was received by the Myanmar President Htin Kyaw. Following set of agreements were signed between the two nation.

  1. MoU on Maritime Security Cooperation
  2. Cultural Exchange Programme for the year 2017-2020.
  3. MoU on Enhancing the Cooperation of the Upgradation of the Women’s Police Training Centre at Yamethin, Myanmar.
  4. MoU for Sharing White Shipping Information between the Indian Navy and Myanmar Navy
  5. Technical Agreement for providing Coastal Surveillance System
  6. MoU between the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare of the Republic of India and Food and Drugs (FDA), Ministry of Health and Sports of Myanmar on Cooperation in Medical Products Regulation.
  7. Exchange of Letter for Extension of MoU on the establishment of MIIT
  8. Exchange of Letter for Extension of MoU on the establishment of India-Myanmar Center for Enhancement of IT-Skill
  9. MoU in the field of elections between the Election Commission of India and The Union Election Commission of Myanmar.
  10. MoU on Cooperation between Myanmar Press Council and the Press Council of India.

9. Govt. accepts National Anomaly Committee recommendation of disability pension for defence forces:

  • The union govt. has accepted the recommendations of a panel that parity with civilians for the grant of disability element to the defence forces under the 6th Central Pay Commission.
  • The armed forces have been pressing for reverting to the percentage-based regime for the disability pension and were strongly opposed to the slab-based system conceived by the 7th CPC.
  • The matter was referred to the National Anomaly Committee by the Ministry of Defence to decide methodology for calculation of disability element of disability pension under the 7th CPC.
  • The Ex-Servicemen Health Contributory Scheme has launched ‘Complaint and Litigation Reduction Scheme, for the grievance redressal of veterans and their dependents.

10. Reliance General Insurance Gets IRDAI Nod for IPO:

  • Reliance General Insurance has received in-principle approval from the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) for its initial public offering (IPO).
  • The insurance firm, which is a 100 per cent subsidiary of Reliance Capital, is expected to list during the ongoing fiscal. Reliance Capital plans to dilute about 25 per cent of its holding in the insurer. Currently, ICICI Prudential Life is listed on the stock exchange, while Max Life insurance is indirectly listed through holding company Max Financial Venture.

11. Facebook launches video platform ‘Watch’ for users in the US:

  • Social media giant Facebook on Wednesday officially launched its video platform ‘Watch’ for users in the US.
  • Available on Facebook’s mobile apps and desktop site, Watch allows users to subscribe to their favourite series and offers sections like “Today’s Spotlight”, “Popular Now”, and “What Friends Are Watching.” It also offers a special “10 Minutes Or More” spot for long-form videos.

12. ISSF World Cup: India bags one Gold, two Silver medals in men’s double trap

  • India has bagged a Gold and two Silver medals in the Men’s Double trap event at the ISSF World Shotgun Championship in Moscow.
  • India won the Gold in the Junior team section of the event with a combined score of 401.
  • Silver medals came in the individual section of both Senior (Ankur Mittal) and Junior categories (Ahvar Rizvi).
