1. Tehri Dam – Uttarakhand
i. It is the highest dam in India & 8th highest dam in the world.

2.Bhakra Dam – Himachal Pradesh
i. Largest dam of India and highest gravity dam in the world.
ii. The Bhakra – Nangal Dam is a joint venture of the governments of Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab.
iii. Its reservoir, known as the “Gobind Sagar Lake”, is the second largest reservoir in India, stores up to 9.34 billion cubic metres of water.

3.Hirakud Dam – Orissa
i. One of the longest earthen dam (26 kms) in the world.

4. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam – Andhra Pradesh
i. It is the world’s largest masonry dam.
ii. Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is certainly the pride of India-considered the largest man-made lake in the world.

5. Sardar Sarovar Dam – Gujarat
i. It is second largest concrete gravity dam (by volume) on the Narmada River near Navagam in Gujarat.
ii. The dam has the world’s third-largest spillway discharging capacity.

6. Indirasagar Dam – Madhya Pradesh
i. The largest reservoir in India with a capacity of 12.22 billion cubic meter.

7. Bhavanisagar Dam – Tamil Nadu
i. First major irrigation project initiated in India after independence in 1947 and was completed by 1956
