Railway New Exam Pattern for Assistant Loco Pilot & Technicians

Indian Railways  Recruitment Board (RRB) has released new exam pattern & marks distributions for 2018 ALP & Technicians Exam. The changes have been done in the exam pattern of 1st stage CBT of ALP exam 2018. All the candidates planning to appear for the exam should start practicing the questions from now on. Indian Railway Exam Pattern:

The entire recruitment process of Railway ALP & & Technicians shall involve, First stage CBT, Second stage CBT, Computer Based Aptitude Test and Document Verification as applicable.
The candidates have to appear for all the stages applicable for the selection.

Selection Process for Railway Exam 2018:

For the post of ALP (Assistant Loco Pilot):-
1. First stage CBT
2. Second Stage CBT
3. Computer Based Aptitude Test (AT).
4. Document Verification and Empanelling of Candidates

For the post of Technician:
1. First stage CBT
2. Second Stage CBT
3. Document Verification and Empanelling of Candidates

Official Notice for ALP & & Technicians New Exam Pattern

  • Minimum percentage of marks for eligibility in various categories : UR: 40%, OBC: 30%, SC: 30%, ST: 25%. 
  • It will consist of multiple-choice objective type questions [bilingual (Hindi/English)]
  • Negative Marking: For every wrong answer 1/3 marks will be deducted.

The First Stage CBT is of screening nature and the standard of questions for the CBT will be generally in conformity with the educational standards and/or minimum technical qualifications prescribed for the posts. The score of first stage exam shall be used only for short listing of candidates for second stage exam as per their merit.

Total number of candidates to be shortlisted for second stage shall be 15 times the community wise total vacancy of Assistent Loco Pilots and Technician Posts notified against the RRB as per their merit in First Stage CBT.

Railway Exam Pattern: 2nd Stage CBT

The Second Stage CBT shall have two parts viz Part A and Part B as detailed below. The total duration of both the parts will be 2 hours and 30 Minutes.

  • This part is qualifying in nature and shall have questions from the trade syllabus prescribed by Director General of Employment & Training (DGET).
  • Candidates with ITI/Trade Apprenticeship qualification will be required to appear in the section having questions from the relevant trade.
  • Candidates holding Degree, Diploma and HSC (10+2) having eligibility for the posts of ALP have to select relevant trade from the list of trades listed against their engineering discipline/HSC (10+2). The trade syllabus can be obtained from the DGET website.

Computer Based Aptitude Test (Only for candidates who have opted for ALP).

  • The candidate needs to secure a minimum score of 42 marks in each of the test batteries to qualify.
  • This is applicable to all candidates and no relaxation is permissible. Candidates equal to 8 times number of ALP vacancies for each of the communities i.e. UR, OBC-NCL, SC and ST (including ExSM) shall be short listed for Computer Based AT (based on their performance in Part Aof the Second Stage CBT subject to their qualifying the Part B of Second Stage CBT) from among the candidates who have opted for the post of ALP.
  • Such shortlisted candidates should produce the Vision Certificate in the prescribed format as per Annexure – VI in original during Computer Based AT, failing which they will not be permitted to appear in the Computer Based AT.
  • Candidates will have to qualify in each of the test battery of Computer Based AT for considering them for the post of ALP. The Computer Based Aptitude Test shall have questions and answer options only in English and Hindi.
  • There shall be no negative marking in Computer Based AT.
  • The ALP merit list will be drawn only from amongst the candidates qualifying in the Aptitude Test, with 70% weightage for the marks obtained in the Part A of Second Stage CBT and 30% weightage for the marks obtained in Computer Based AT.
