1. National Sports Awards 2018 Announced; Mirabai Chanu and Virat Kohli to get Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna

National Sports Awards are given every year to recognize and reward excellence in sports. Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award is given for the spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over a period of four year, Arjuna Award is given for consistency outstanding performance for four years, Dronacharya Award for coaches for producing medal winners at prestigious International sports events, Dhyan Chand Award for life time contribution to sports development and Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar is given to the corporate entities (both in private and public sector) and individuals who have played a visible role in the area of sports promotion and development. Overall top performing university in inter-university tournaments is given Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy.

Based on the recommendations of the Committee and after due scrutiny, the Government has decided to confer awards upon the following sports persons, coaches and entities:

2. ISRO Technology Incubation Centre Inaugurated At NIT Agartala

  • Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb inaugurated ISRO’s first Space Technology Incubation Centre(STIC) at the National Institute of Technology Agartala via remote from Bengaluru.
  • The Centre was launched at the first edition of ‘Spacetronics’ organised by the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA).

3. India Post Payments Bank, Bajaj Allianz Join Hands ‘To Provide Insurance To All’

  • State-owned India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) and Private Life Insurer Bajaj Allianz Life Insurance Co Ltd (BALIC) entered into a strategic partnership to provide life insurance solutions, especially at the doorstep of every household in the country.
  • This partnership will leverage IPPB’s last mile reach for building awareness about life insurance. Both the companies came together, to formally sign the Corporate Agency Agreement.

4. ESIC approves new scheme, Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna for cash relief to unemployed insured persons

  • The Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) has approved a new scheme- Atal Bimit Vyakti Kalyan Yojna for Insured Persons covered under the Employees’ State Insurance Act.
  • This scheme is a relief payable in cash directly to their Bank Account in case of unemployment and while they search for new engagement. The decision was taken at the ESIC board meeting chaired by the Labour Minister Santosh Gangwar in New Delhi.
  • According to an official release, the eligibility for availing Super Specialty treatment for dependents of Insured Person has now been relaxed to insurable employment of one year with 156 days of contributions.

5. India, Russia Air Force joint exercise commences: Aviaindra 18

  • India and Russia joint air exercise Aviaindra 18 was held in Lipetsk, Russia from September 17 to 28, 2018. The second session of Aviaindra 18 will be conducted in Jodhpur, Rajasthan (India) from December 10 Dec to 22, 2018.
  • Exercise Aviaindra is Air Force level exercise between India and Russia. It was conducted for first time in 2014 and since then it is conducted bi-annually (twice a year) in both countries. The aim of this exercise is focused towards anti-terrorist operations in bi-lateral scenario.
  • It also seeks to further enhance co-operation and understanding between Air forces of both countries in each other’s Concept of Operations.

6. MSME Insider: Monthly e-Newsletter of MSME Ministry launched

  • Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) has launched its monthly e-newsletter MSME Insider. The e-newsletter will give information of activities undertaken by MSME Ministry and also act as bridge between Ministry and millions of MSME units spread across the country.
  • The e-newsletter will provide regular flow of information about sector to MSMEs. It will also help in developing two-way communication between MSME Ministry and its stakeholders.
  • It will also create awareness about schemes and other activities undertaken by MSME Ministry and its affiliated organizations.

7. Top Scientist KN Vyas Appointed Atomic Energy Commission Chief

  • Renowned scientist Kamlesh Nilkanth Vyas has been appointed the secretary of the Department of Atomic Energy and chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission. Mr Vyas, who is at present Director of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), has been appointed in place of Shekhar Basu.
  • Mr Basu was appointed to the post in October 2015 and his tenure was to end in September 2016. Mr Vyas is a Mechanical Engineering graduate from MS University, Vadodara.

8. Government Appoints New MD & CEOs At 10 PSBs: Here Is All You Need To Know

  • The government of India cleared the appointment of Chief Executive Officers and Managing Directors (CEOs and MDs) at 10 Public Sector Banks (PSBs). They are part of the 15 names recommended by the Bank Boards Bureau for elevation.
  • Of those named, five are currently the deputy managing directors of State Bank of India (SBI) while the other five are executive directors (EDs) at different government-owned banks.
  • Here is the list of people appointed as MD and CEO at various PSBs:

1. Padmaja Chundru – Indian Bank.
2. Mrutyunjay Mahapatra – Syndicate Bank.
3. Pallav Mohapatra – Central Bank of India.
4. Packirisamy – Andhra Bank.
5. Karnam Sekar – Dena Bank.
*All of the above people are currently deputy MDs at SBI.

6. SS Mallikarajuna Rao – Allahabad Bank – He is currently the ED of Syndicate Bank.
7. AS Rajeev – Bank of Maharashtra – He is currently the ED of Indian Bank.
8. Atul Kumar Goel – UCO Bank – He is currently the ED at Union Bank of India.
9. S Harisankar – Punjab & Sind Bank. He is currently the Executive Director of Allahabad Bank.

9. CCEA approves Revised Cost Estimate of Dam rehabilitation and Improvement Project

  • Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved Revised Cost Estimate of Dam Rehabilitation and Improvement Project (DRIP).
  • It has been increased to Rs. 3,466 crore from earlier Rs. 1968 crore. CCEA also gave approval for two-year time extension for project from July 2018 to June 2020.
  • Out of total revised cost of Rs.3,466 crore, Rs.2,628 crore will be funded by World Bank and Rs.747 crore will be funded by DRIP States or Implementing Agencies (IAs) and balance Rs.91 crore will be funded by Central Water Commission (CWC).
