SSC CGL Exam Pattern
The SSC CGL Exam Dates are out and we assume that most of the students are aware of the exam pattern which was released in the SSC CGL Notification 2018. But still there are few students who get confused while looking at the complex usage of words in the official notification and this is the reason, we are providing you the latest exam pattern for SSC CGL 2019.
SSC CGL 2018 Exam Pattern
For past few years, SSC has eliminated the process of Interview. After that, we have only 4 Stages in SSC CGL exam for the final selection. The 4th Stage, also known as Tier 4 is conducted for selected candidates. Following are the stages of the SSC CGL exam process.
- Tier 1 (Objective Examination)
- Tier 2 (Objective Examination)
- Tier 3 (Descriptive Examination)
- Tier 4 (Skill Test or Computer Proficiency Test)
In order to understand the pattern of all the 4 Stages of SSC CGL exam, we will have to look at the each component separately. Let us look at them individually for more details:
SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam Pattern
The SSC CGL Tier 1 exam is compulsory for all the candidates. In this, you will have 100 Questions for which you will get only 60 minutes. This exam will be objective in nature and the candidate has to chose the correct option out of four. Look at the below table for more details.

Note: Each question carries 2 Marks. There will be a negative marking of 1/4 for every wrong answer you mark.
SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam Pattern
Once a candidate qualifies the SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam, he then has to appear for SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam which is next in the process. SSC CGL Tier 2 has only to subjects viz. Quantitative Aptitude and English Language. Both of these subjects are of 200 Marks and the duration is 2 hours for each. Apart from this, there is Paper 3 which is for the candidates who have opted for “Statistical Investigator Gr. II” and “Compiler” and Paper 4 is only for the post of “Assistant Audit Officer”. SSC CGL Tier 3 Exam Pattern
SSC CGL Tier 3 exam is a pen paper mode exam. In this, a candidate has to write Essay, Letter and Precis. SSC CGL Tier 3 is equally important for all the candidates aspiring for better ministries. The table below will help you understand the way questions have been asked in SSC CGL Tier 3.

SSC CGL Tier 4 Exam Pattern
SSC CGL Tier 4 is nothing but the Computer Proficiency Test or Skill Test required for few posts in SSC CGL. Following are the tests that are conducted in SSC CGL Tier 4 Examination.
1. DEST (Data Entry Speed Test)
This skill test is of qualifying nature for all the posts, other than Compiler, and is used to check the typing speed of the candidate. The candidates are given printed matter in English which they must accurately type on a computer with a minimum of 2000 (two thousand) key depressions in a duration of 15 (fifteen) minutes.
2. CPT (Computer Proficiency Test)
The Commission will hold CPT, comprising three modules – Word Processing, Spread Sheet and Generation of Slides, for applicants for the post of Assistants of CSS(Assistant), MEA(Assistant), Inspector (Central Excise) [CBEC], Inspector (Preventive officer)[CBEC] & Inspector (Examiner)[CBEC]. CPT will be of a qualifying nature.
